The Measure Area tool allows you to trace out a polygon on the map using as many vertices as needed. A running total of the area is displayed.

Measure Area

Click points on the map to draw a polygon around an area; the total area within the extents of the polygon is measured. Double-click to stop measuring; the final tally will remain displayed in the Total Measures field.

You can view the measurement in metric or imperial units, by meters, kilometers, feet, or miles.

As the zoom level is changed, the unit of measure changes. For example, if Imperial is selected as the measuring unit, and the map zoom level is low, the measure taken will be displayed in feet. If you zoom out on the map, the measure will change to miles.

To clear the drawn area from the map, click the Remove Graphics icon that is on the toolbar. Click Yes on the confirmation message that appears.
